Tee Time

Adam Fougere, Assistant Golf Professional

April is great for golf and golfers in Tallahassee. The weather is beautiful and the days longer, which give everyone a chance to be outdoors and enjoy the golf course after a hard day at the office.

We are starting the traditional men’s league earlier in the season. As many of you know, men’s league is every Wednesday night beginning at about 5 p.m. Each week we have a new format and it costs only $10 to get into the game. We hope to grow the numbers over last year and make it more fun for all who participate. Just call the Golf Shop the day of the Wednesday you want to play and sign up for that evening.

I would like to take a minute to bring an important issue to everyone’s attention. Lately, I have noticed a number of members coming out to golf wearing blue jeans and, in some instances, t-shirts. As a whole, it strikes me that we have all become a little lackadaisical when it comes to our dress on the golf course. As a reminder to everyone, the proper dress when playing golf is as follows: The appropriate attire for men/boys on the golf course, at all times, should be slacks or Bermuda length shorts and a collared shirt. Hats should be worn forward and removed when in the clubhouse. The appropriate attire for women/girls on the golf course, at all times, should be sleeveless tops that have collars or collar-less tops that have sleeves, golf skirts, slacks, Bermuda or walking shorts of below mid-thigh length.

For both genders, denim or jeans, cut-offs, running, tennis and gym shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, attire that shows the mid-drift or clothing with offensive language/slogans are not appropriate attire. We hope everyone will make a conscious effort to follow this dress code and help to improve the overall image of Capital City Country Club.

Until the next time, You stay classy Capital City!

GREETINGS FROM THE GOLF COMMITTEE
Roy C. Young

We are listening to our members!  Doug White suggested that we have a Member/Member in February, and the one we had on the 6th was well attended.  Thanks, Doug.  We will have at least two more Member/Member tournaments – a 27-hole event on June 7 and another in December.  If there is on-going demand, we will have many more.

The 60th Annual Shamrock Invitational took place March 14 - 15.  It was a pleasure for this Committee to stand aside and let the Ladies Golf Association do their thing.  The tournament was an enthusiastic success and there was some great play by the lady golfers.

Several members have asked that we try to have some inter-club matches.  Dale has met with the other regional Club Professionals and all agreed that Saturday afternoons (with a limit of 12 players) would be a good start.  In March, the first inter-club match pitted Capital City against Golden Eagle.

This month, we are having a rematch with Golden Eagle here at CCCC.  A notice has been posted and we need 12 players.  If more want to play, the 12 will be selected by drawing.  It is a net event, so all handicaps are welcome.  Please see Dale if you are interested in these inter-club matches or want more info.  We have received strong interest for similar events from two clubs in Georgia.  Eventually, we hope to have GA/FLA round robins leading to a playoff for trophy in December of each year.  But for now, we’ll go slow to make sure our members want to participate in these events.

The 42nd Annual Springtime Invitational is April 18, 19 and 20.  If you haven’t already done so, pick up a brochure in the ProShop.  July brings the Jim Lee Open with its traditional format returning.  On the 18th it will be a ProAm (pro, 2 scratch with 1 CCCC member) and on the 19th and 20th it will be a flighted event.  Marcus Beck will Captain this event as well as the new 4-Ball Invitational in September (with payoff at maximum $$ and a special evening off site).  More on this later as we firm up the details.

The Member/Guest set for October 17, 18 and 19 will be co-chaired by Jack Connell and last year's popular winner, Mike Flury.

Our goal is to make these events the best in the area in terms of prizes and social activities.  JR, Dale, your Board and this Committee will do their part.  We hope all of our members share our passion for the Club and that you will help us achieve our goals.

I welcome your comments, good or bad.  If bad, though, please don't just complain, but offer a positive solution.  You can email me at Royy7@comcast.net.  Until the next time …
