Mike Grant Captures 42nd Annual Springtime Invitational
When Mike Grant hit his tee shot at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, he found himself three shots behind Brunswick, Georgia's Dr. Alan Hampton. Hampton had fired rounds of 70- 66 to open up a lead over the field and only Mike Grant stood in his way. On a day when warm sunshine and swirling winds ruled the course, Grant played steady and unspectacular golf on the final round, but his two-putt par on the final hole gave him the victory. Mike had rounds of 72-67-72 (5 under par) to win by 2 shots over Hampton. Capital City Country Club nearly won every flight in the tournament with Mike Grant, Tom McCabe, John Olewski, and Matt Behnke all claiming their respective Divisions. All the Capital City winners and their scores are listed at the end of this column. Many thanks to all who participated.
My sincere thanks go out to Marcus Beck, Mike Grant, Billy
Ervin and Gretchen Jones of Merrill Lynch for their sponsorship of
the tournament. Without their financial support we could not have
put on the event we did.
With summer nearly here I would like you to know about a few staff
changes in the Golf Shop. As some of you already know, Adam
Fougere is leaving our Club to move back to his home on Cape
Cod. Adam has been a pleasure to have as my Assistant Professional
for the past few years. He has a great future ahead of him and his
wife, Jen, and baby, Madison, will be missed. Adam will be Assistant
Professional at Eastward Ho Golf Club and will be starting there May
1st.
Also heading north is Maise Kauffman who
will be doing her first internship in the Professional Golf Management
School at Florida State this summer. Maisie will be at The Cliffs
in North Carolina but will return to the Club and FSU for the Fall
Semester.
I am happy to have Evan Neihaus (who has been working for the last several weeks at the Club) move inside for the summer. Evan is a third year PGM student from Florida State University who has done prior internships with The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Old Palm in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I believe Evan will be a great addition to our staff, and I hope you will welcome him for the summer.
The Kid's Camp dates are June 9 -12, 2008 and will have golf, swimming and tennis for all four days. Each day begins at 9 a.m. and parents may pick up their child at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided. If you have any questions or for more information you can call me at 224-1815 or Jon Zolin at 224-5144.
